Las Vegas International Jewelry Show
Bomi's domestic and international buying team, consisting of Michael Killian and Susannah Florencio, has just returned from a very successful buying trip venued in Las Vegas, Nevada. With more than 3500 exibitors, it is one of the largest jewelry shows in the world.
Michael and Susannah employ their expertise to shop the world market at these expositions. Their goal is to finds the highest quality gemstones and finished jewelry products at the best possible prices.
These conventions are not only international sources for jewelry related items, but also serve as a strong indicator of current and future jewelry and fashion trends. Because of the widespread international participation in this event, is is also used as the watermark for the current prices in the ever-changing colored stone market.
The team really enjoys the last hours of the show when they are able to purchase truely unique items at better-than-market prices. They have known to return with such treasures as the rare Brazilian alexandrite and paraiba tourmalines.

2009 Jewelry Trends

Growing education in the value of colored diamonds, celebrity trendsetters wearing them on red carpets, and the popularity for individuality in personal style are all helping to drive consumer demand for these treasures.

Amherst Museum Gemstone Lecture

Susannah Florencio, Graduate Gemologist, of BOMI presented a lecture at the Amherst Museum on March 18 as part of their Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series. The lecture was an informative overview on diamond and colored gemstones, and a lot of fun. Afterwards, she informally fields questions from gem enthusiasts.
